What is GD&T?
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a symbolic language for unambiguously communicating permissible limits of imperfection in real-world manufactured parts. While a designer may conceive a precise, perfect model in his CAD system, real manufacturing processes are not perfect; variation is introduced to the real manufactured parts. To ensure proper assembly and functioning, the designer needs to specify how much variation is allowed in the real parts. GD&T is the language for communicating these limits of variation on the form, size, orientation, and location of parts features.
