GD&T in Industry – GD&T Implementation – GD&T in the Supply Chain

We teach dimensional management strategies in all of our courses. We present GD&T from a business point of view and we present GD&T from a legal point of view. In a sense, all of our courses are business courses – we teach GD&T, tolerance analysis, 3D-MBD, and 3D-MBE in a business context. GD&T does not exist on a technical island – it is used and exists in the workplace. We make sure your staff gets this critical point, and we lead them to understand how they can optimize their use of GD&T for the goals of the business. We explain specifications from both a technical point of view and a legal point of view, as engineering drawings and annotated models form part of a contract. Specifications are legally-binding and it is critical that your staff and suppliers understand the implications. There are many constraints in product development and product definition, and it is critical that everyone in the supply chain understands why certain specifications are needed, why they are beneficial, and the pros, cons, and tradeoffs of alternate approaches. It is also critical that your design organization understands the implications of the specifications they create on the rest of supply chain. Any misunderstandings or missteps in any of these areas can be very costly. Our goal is to make sure your staff works toward a common goal as a coherent team. Our goal is your success.

GD&T Training Courses and Seminars

In our GD&T courses and GD&T seminars we teach the concepts, rules and language of GD&T, and as discussed above, we teach the business implications of GD&T. Our GD&T training presents GD&T from a functional viewpoint, discussing the topics from the point-of-view of application to real world problems.

When we teach GD&T, we teach it from the point-of-view of application to real world problems, not just another textbook approach. GD&T is taught with Tolerance Stackups in mind – we want our clients to understand the implications of the tolerances they specify, including the type of tolerance, material condition modifiers, datum references, and the tolerance values as well. We also discuss the implications on assembly methods, manufacturing and inspection. Although GD&T is a science of the details, it must also be understood in the context of the big picture.

We offer Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Custom GD&T courses and GD&T seminars. We call these GD&T training courses Level 1 GD&T Fundamentals, Level 2 GD&T Applications, and Level 3 Advanced GD&T courses. We also offer Functional Dimensioning and Tolerancing courses and GD&T Certification Preparation seminars. Our GD&T training can be generic or our GD&T training can be adapted to your specific needs.

Our Level 1 Fundamentals of GD&T course presents the details and show how the details fit into the full system of GD&T, from the details to the big picture. Level 1 GD&T explains the meaning of the symbols and specifications and how to properly specify the needed tolerances. Level 1 GD&T explains the exact meaning of all the Geometric Tolerances, Definitions, the Fundamental Rules, Feature Control Frames and Datum Reference Frames. Functional Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts are introduced and woven through the curriculum. This course explains the system of GD&T, how all of the components work together to form a complete, coherent system. We explain how to implement GD&T in the workplace, and how to understand the many tradeoffs between competing interests within the supply chain.

Level 2 GD&T Appliacations and Level 3 Advanced GD&T courses are taught with the requirements of the final product in mind, which includes extensive applications, alternate strategies, and the effect of the GD&T on Tolerance Stackups. Dimensional Management concepts are addressed throughout these courses as well. We want our clients to understand the implications of the tolerances they specify, including the functional implications and the cost implications of the assembly, manufacturing and inspection processes. The many nuances of GD&T and the importance of syntax and context are discussed in detail. Functional Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts are further developed and explained throughout the course. In our Level 2 GD&T and Level 3 GD&T courses, your staff will work through real world examples and solve problems that will help them do a better job in the workplace and form more coherent teams. Teamwork is essential in any dimensional management implementation, and our GD&T training will help you develop more effective teams that solve your dimensional management problems optimally.

If desired, our GD&T courses may be customized around your products and problems. Custom courses can be anything you want. Our training has been successful in a variety of environments and contexts.

Onsite GD&T Training Courses

Most of our customers prefer for us to come to their facility and teach in-house courses. This allows us to talk about their parts, products, and processes in a more private setting. We help many companies every year – why not let us help you achieve your Dimensional Management goals?  We offer ASME Y14.5-based GD&T Training Courses and ISO 1101-based GD&T Training Courses. Course content can be suited to your needs and practices. Our onsite courses include time to review your designs, drawings, products, and processes.

GD&T, Dimensional Management, and the Big Picture

Although GD&T is a science of the details, it must also be understood in the context of the big picture. If our clients are interested, we also explore the implications of their Dimensioning and Tolerancing Schemes on the rest of their company, helping our students to understand the tradeoffs in cost and quality they make when selecting various Tolerancing Schemes.

We offer the finest in GD&T training and offer an unparalleled journey through the language of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Our explanations and materials are presented in a mathematically precise manner while keeping the material easy to understand and assimilate. We teach GD&T at many companies, from very small to the largest multi-national corporations. And, we are invited back to teach more courses when staff grows or if more advanced training is desired.

Experts in ASME GD&T, ISO GPS, and ISO GD&T

Our trainers are experts in ISO GPS / ISO GD&T standards and ASME GD&T standards, as we participate in the development of ISO GPS and ISO STEP standards, and we participate in the development of ASME Y14.5 and other ASME Y14-series standards. We teach ISO GD&T courses and we teach ASME GD&T courses. While the two GD&T systems look quite similar, there are important differences between the ISO GD&T system and ASME GD&T system. We can help your development team and supply chain if you use the ISO GD&T system or the ASME GD&T system, or even if your development team and supply chain are international and use both systems (ISO GD&T and ASME GD&T) in different parts of the enterprise. We provide services internationally, and we regularly work with multinational corporations in the U.S. and around the world.
