Core Modeling – CETOL 6σ Consulting

Core modeling is a service used to expedite analysis modeling for existing customers of CETOL 6σ software. A Sigmetrix analyst meets with the customer to understand assembly failure modes, functional assembly features, and assembly process. The analyst performs the necessary CETOL 6σ core modeling to develop a working model for the customer. The modeling activities are captured in the “CETOL 6σ Modeler” portion of the diagram below. The customer then utilizes the CETOL 6σ Analyzer to perform a number of important calculations including:

  • nominal design centering
  • tolerance adjustments
  • manufacturing variation (σ, Cp, Cpk)
  • dimension scheme alterations
  • non-conforming product

Core Modeling Training Recommended for:
Existing CETOL 6σ customers, time-sensitive projects, and analyses beyond current customer capabilities

Model Validation

“Ready to report the results and make recommendations based on an analysis code but don’t have full confidence in your skill level?”

Analysis codes give answers. Some are right, some are close, and some may lead you down the wrong path. While CETOL 6σ is a very structured, logical assembly variation analysis tool, new users may not have the confidence required to present findings and make recommendations. With Sigmetrix Model Validation service, a certified Sigmetrix application engineer will do a full review of every aspect of the CETOL 6σ analysis model. The review includes the following activities:

  • Validate the assembly measurement accurately reflects the product requirement
  • Ensure proper setting of degrees of freedom
  • Validate dimension schemes and tolerance settings correctly represent drawing intent
  • Validate sensitivity values for critical-to-quality part features
  • Make dimension scheme recommendations based on assembly functionality

How it works:

  • Introductory call to qualify need
  • Establish non-disclosure agreement
  • Review the assembly
  • Sigmetrix provides quotation
  • Review findings and suggested changes
  • Provide report of findings and CXM file if needed

Modeling Guides CETOL 6σ

Modeling guides are our way to assist companies with knowledge capture for CETOL 6σ Modeling and Analysis. Analyses are detailed to a level that allows a newly trained user to replicate the analysis efficiently.

Our modeling guides includes discussion and instructions for the following:

  • Analysis background and requirements
  • CETOL 6σ Measurement creation , property settings, and interpretation
  • CETOL 6σ Joint creation, assembly sequence, and property settings
  • CETOL 6σ Configuration definition, creation, and settings for unique joints
  • CETOL 6σ dimension scheme definition and tolerance settings
  • CETOL 6σ Modeling Validation process
  • CETOL 6σ Analysis results and interpretation
  • CETOL 6σ Report Generation

Customers benefit from these modeling guides resources in two ways . First, a full analysis is completed on an assembly with the results being used to improve the current design. Secondly, future analyses can be conducted quickly, consistently, and confidently by internal users avoiding any future consulting costs. However, as companies needs change and grow, consultation and training are offered by Sigmetrix year round.

Recommended for: Accounts with similar product families and distributed tolerance analysis responsibilities

How Modeling Guides Work:

  • Similar to a Single Tolerance Analysis project
  • Analysis reviewed with current design team, quality, and manufacturing
  • Defined Training delivered to multiple users/multiple design teams
  • Deliverable is a reusable modeling and analysis guide

Production Confirmation

Production confirmation is a very detailed consulting activity used for one of two purposes:

  1. Validate product quality at concept, design, and/or pre-production phase, and
  2. Troubleshoot existing product issues.

Tolerance analyses are performed at different stages for different reasons throughout the product development process.

CETOL 6σ Consulting - Product Confirmation

As products progress from concept through manufacturing, more product and process definition becomes available and many of the analysis assumptions can be replaced with what is really going to happen. For example, assumed part quality in the design phase is replaced with actual capability data. So, when it is time to release a product into manufacturing, or a released product has problems, the CETOL6σ model represents an “as-manufactured” predictive model.

Production Confirmation utilizes the “as-manufactured” CETOL 6σ model to understand and qualify key features in the assembly. Sensitivity data defines the critical part features. This information is used to prioritize troubleshooting or data collection activity based on the potential impact of each dimension. Assembly fixtures, inspection methods, and GD&T interpretation can be targeted for review. Any deviations outside of the model are quickly assessed for impact on product quality. Production Confirmation occurs when part capabilities, assembly process, and inspection methodologies are validated to be in accordance with the as-manufactured CETOL 6σ model.

How it works:

  • Establish non-disclosure agreement
  • Review product status and requirement(s)
  • Visit customer location to get detailed understanding of:
  • Product status
  • Assembly requirement(s)
  • Dimensional /Quality management process
  • Review of drawings
  • Review of assembly process
  • Review of inspection capabilities
  • Develop statement of work for Production Confirmation
  • Conduct CETOL 6σ analyses off-site or on-site
  • Obtain capability data for critical-to-quality (CTQ) features
  • On-site review of analysis results followed by detailed drawing and dimensional management review for CTQ features.
  • Report findings, make recommendations, mark-up drawings as needed.
  • Establish measure(s) of success
  • Measure improvement resulting from changes where appropriate
